About Us
Arise and Shine Foundation is a 501(c) non-profit public charity with the aim of helping girls and young women who have been gone through gender based violence: – early marriages, adolescence pregnancy, sexual harassment and other form of violence against women in the society . Also is registered under section 12(2) of Non-Government Organization Act of 2002 with registration number 00NGO/R/1836 in Tanzania.

To end female genital mutilation, child marriage and other forms of violence against girls and young women through education, advocacy, empowerment and provides support to victims of gender based violence and female genital mutilation.
Our Vision
To have a world in which girls and young women feel safe and enjoy their human rights, where female genital mutilation, child marriage and other forms of violence against girls are abolished.

Annie Lasway, PhD
is a Healthcare Researcher with expertise and extensive experience in healthcare research, health informatics, bayesian statistics, predictive analytics in healthcare, patient revisit intervals, medical coding and reimbursement, revenue cycle operations, and payment models. Dr. Lasway earned her Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Health Services Research with honors, concentration in Informatics from George Mason University in Virginia, Master’s of Science degree in Public Health, concentration in Global and Community Health from George Mason University in Virginia and Bachelor of Science degree in Community Health from the University of Maryland (UMD), in Maryland. She is also a Certified Project Management Professional (PMP) and a Certified Medical Coder (CPC).
Leticia Nkonya PhD
Has over 15 years of experience in International Development with a technical focus on social research, gender equality and social inclusion (GESI) analysis, higher education teaching, and program management and evaluation. She is the recipient of fellowships from the Ford Foundation and the International Water Management Institute for research on gender issues, customary laws, and rural water management in Africa. Dr. Nkonya earned a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Sociology, concentration in International Development and Social Change, a Master’s degree in Sociology, concentration in Social Demography and Research Methods and a Graduate Certificate in Women Studies and Gender all from Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas. She has extensive experience in research design, data quality management, analysis and reporting. She designs Computer Assisted Personal Interview survey instruments and has authored a book, several book chapters and journal articles.
Dr. Edith Singine
has more than 15 years of experience working with non-profit organizations. In her current role as a Program Director for a non-profit organization that provide services to persons with disabilities, homeless, youth at risk, and the seniors in Virginia, she manages programs and projects, and fosters an environment of teamwork while overseeing performance and maintaining morale. Dr. Singine graduated from Ashland University in Ohio with a Master’s degree in Business Administration specializing in Project Management. She also earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Management from Hamilton College in Mason City, Iowa, and a Bachelor of Science in Veterinary Medicine from Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) in Tanzania, East Africa
